Young & Free Alberta

The challenge was to launch a free checking account for the under 25 group and connect with the youth market in Northern Alberta. But how do you raise brand awareness with members of the seemingly unreachable Generation Y and create excitement and understanding with all 400 staff members?

Changing an Industry Reviewed September 12, 2008

As the average credit union membership age continues to increase, it becomes more important than ever to reach out and educate our younger members of society about financial choices. The Young and Free account gives this group an identity with a financial institution that cares about where these people are going in life. I am not from Alberta, nor do I have a Young and Free account (I don't qualify as I am not so Young :)), but I have seen what this has done for an industry. I have followed Larissa for her whole tenure at Y&F Alberta and look forward to seeing how her successor can fill her footsteps...Larissa is a great find for the credit union for their first spokester b/c she not only touted the benefits of the credit union she was afilliated with, but credit unions as a whole and even got the blogsphere rolling with the "older" crowd with her mini movies. This is an international groundswell and I aplaud those behind the research and implementation of this project.
